After sending 20 cook-stoves to Japan to help with the relief effort, ESSE was pleased to receive the following photos: showing our Japanese distributor hard at work installing the stoves and flues in some of the most badly affected areas of the country following the earthquake and tsunami.

The compact, wood-burning, cook-stoves were installed in shelters and community shelters where they were needed most, and each stove was also filled with food parcels kindly donated by Heinz.

Sales Director Mark Blewitt explains: “According to the Red Cross, more than 440,000 people in Japan have had to leave their homes due to the earthquake and resulting tsunami.

“We might not usually have sent products as opposed to monetary donations, but during a visit to England our Japanese distributor spotted the prototypes of these stoves in the ESSE workshop and realised they’d be ideal for the earthquake victims and the rescue teams working so hard out there. They were originally developed for use during camping expeditions in the Arctic.”
